Singapore Airshow features Airbus A350-1000 with SAF

By Staff Correspondent

Airbus has flown in its newest generation of widebody aircraft, the A350-1000, as part of its presence at the Singapore Airshow. This plane will take part in the air show that takes place from February 20th to the 22nd.

For the aerial shows, the A350 is being propelled by a 35% mixture of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which is provided by Shell Aviation and has been verified by the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) UK standards. Utilizing the HEFA-SPK route, the SAF component was synthesized from tallow and employed cooking oil as feedstock. In collaboration with ST-Airport Services, Changi Airport Group, and SATS, the SAF refuelling took place at Changi Airport.

With SAF, the aerospace sector can cut its carbon emissions by an average of 80% compared to fossil fuels across their entire life cycle, from manufacture to end usage. This makes it a huge step towards decarbonization. Up to 50% SAF may already be used by any Airbus aircraft. By 2030, Airbus hopes that all of its planes will be able to run on as much as 100% SAF.

The most recent A350, powered by Rolls-Royce’s state-of-the-art engines, reduces fuel consumption and carbon emissions by 25% compared to its predecessors in the same size class. This helps the aviation sector achieve its environmental aim of reducing the effect of flying with each new aircraft.

With a maximum nonstop range of 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 km), the A350 has quickly become the most popular long-range aircraft in the world, with 40 airlines now using them. Seventeen of these airlines are based in the Asia-Pacific area and fly the type mostly on transcontinental trips.

Singapore Airlines operates the longest commercial route in the world, which stretches from Singapore to New York, using the A350. Qantas, an Australian airline, has ordered it to break new ground in nonstop air travel by reaching previously unreachable destinations, such as London from Sydney. Its future flights will take it even beyond.

At the Singapore Airshow 2024, Airbus will showcase its whole range of products and services for the commercial aeroplane, helicopter, defence, and space industries at one of the largest exhibits. A unique ACH130 Aston Martin helicopter, a full-scale model of the H145M, an A400M military airlifter, and an A330neo widebody aircraft are among the other highlights.

Furthermore, guests will get the opportunity to closely see the A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s H225M medium-lift helicopter.
