Air India & Singapore Airlines Expand Partnership to Offer More Choice, Flexibility & Rewards

Staff Correspondent

The aviation industry, a dynamic realm of interconnectedness and collaboration, continually seeks ways to improve customer experience and operational efficiency. In a significant stride toward this goal, Air India and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have launched an expanded strategic partnership, poised to redefine air travel between India and Singapore. This collaboration, underpinned by a Commercial Cooperation Framework Agreement signed in January 2026, marks a pivotal moment for both carriers and promises significant benefits for their clientele.

The initial phase of this enhanced partnership, set to commence on October 15, 2026, will unlock a broader spectrum of itinerary and flight options for customers. By removing the current restriction that necessitates an SIA-operated flight when booking an Air India codeshare flight through SIA (and vice versa), travellers will gain unprecedented flexibility. This liberalization allows customers to book eligible flights between India and Singapore, operated by either airline, on a standalone basis through the other carrier’s digital platforms and authorized travel agencies. This expansion includes 126 weekly flights connecting Singapore with eight major Indian cities: Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, and Mumbai. This change means a more streamlined booking process and a wider array of choices, ultimately giving travellers greater control over their journey planning.

Beyond the immediate booking advantages, the partnership extends its benefits to the airlines’ loyal frequent flyer members. Building on the reciprocal mileage accrual benefits enhanced in April 2026, which expanded eligible booking classes and revised earn rates across all cabin classes, the second quarter of 2027 will usher in a new era of elevated privileges. Maharaja Club and KrisFlyer members will enjoy enhanced reciprocal benefits on eligible routes, supplementing their existing Star Alliance perks. Specifically, Maharaja Club Platinum and KrisFlyer PPS Club members will be granted priority check-in and boarding, mirroring the privileges extended to top-tier members of both airlines. Similarly, Maharaja Club Silver and KrisFlyer Elite Silver members will benefit from additional baggage allowances and priority boarding on eligible routes, ensuring a more consistent and rewarding travel experience across both carriers. These enhancements underscore a shared commitment to recognizing and rewarding customer loyalty, fostering a sense of value and exclusivity.

Air India and SIA’s strategic vision extends beyond these initial phases, with ongoing efforts to introduce further customer-centric initiatives. These include optimizing schedule connectivity to minimize layovers and waiting times, developing enhanced offerings for corporate clients, and implementing additional measures to streamline the overall travel experience. These future endeavours highlight a forward-thinking approach, aiming to continually innovate and adapt to the evolving needs of the modern traveller.

Leaders from both airlines have expressed strong optimism about this expanded partnership. Nipun Agarwal, Chief Commercial Officer, Air India, emphasized the critical role of strategic partnerships in Air India’s evolution into a leading global airline. He articulated a shared commitment to customer-centricity, aiming to leverage both carriers’ strengths to deliver greater consistency, choice, convenience, and value. Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer of Singapore Airlines, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the partnership as a significant step toward greater benefits and a more seamless experience. Both executives acknowledged strong demand for travel between Singapore and India, positioning the collaboration as a strategic response to capitalize on this growing opportunity.

Currently, Air India and SIA operate under a comprehensive codeshare agreement, spanning 77 destinations across 27 countries and territories. Leveraging their hubs in Delhi, Mumbai, and Singapore, the two airlines give customers access to an extensive global network spanning Asia, Europe, North America, Australia, and beyond. This expanded partnership further strengthens their collaboration, promising a more integrated and efficient travel ecosystem.

The expanded strategic partnership between Air India and Singapore Airlines represents a forward-looking initiative that prioritizes customer convenience, choice, and loyalty. By streamlining booking processes, enhancing frequent flyer benefits, and committing to continuous innovation, both airlines are poised to offer an unparalleled travel experience between India and Singapore. This collaboration not only strengthens their market positions but also contributes to the broader aviation landscape, setting a new benchmark for strategic alliances in the industry.
