Indian Coast Guard Gets New Commander: Manoj Vasant Baadkar Assumes Command

At a spectacular ceremonial parade in Mumbai Manoj Vasant Baadkar, Inspector General took over as the Commander of the Indian Coast Guard Western Region. In the appointment as Commander Of the Indian Coast Guard, He would be heading the service for the entire Western Region including the states of Maharashtra Goa Kerala Lakshadweep islands and Karnataka.

Prior to being promoted to the rank of Inspector General in 2018 and being appointed as Chairman of CGSB at Delhi, he has been the head of the ICG for the state of Karnataka from 2006 to 2008 and Goa from 2013 to 2018. In his 36 years of illustrious career, he has commanded several coast guard Ships and stations

The new Commander hails from karwar and is an alumnus of St Joseph’s High school and Government Arts & Science College karwar. IG Manoj Vasant Baadkar joined the Indian Coast Guard Service on 12 Jan 1987. In his career spanning over 36 years, the Flag Officer has held several key appointments afloat and ashore and has a proven track record of outstanding and meritorious performance in all of his assignments.

Notable appointments held among them, are Command of Coast Guard Ships Priya Darshini and Ahalyabai. He has been the commissioning Commanding Officer of Coast Guard Ship Samudra Prahari, the first specialized Pollution control ship in South East Asia. He has headed Coast Guard for the two Maritime states, Karnataka and Goa.

The Flag officer has also held various appointments like the command of Coast Guard Station Vadinar, Command Operations Officer at Joint Services Andaman & Nicobar command during the Tsunami, Chief Staff Officer Fisheries & Environment Western Region and Chief Staff Officer Operations of the Coast Guard Western Region.

He has also held the post of the Chief of Staff, of the Coast Guard Western Region. On elevation to the flag rank, he was appointed as the Deputy Director General and the Chairman CGSB, thereafter the Chief of Staff Headquarters, Coast Guard Eastern Seaboard at Visakhapatnam and prior assuming present assignment he was the Chief of Staff Headquarters, Coast Guard Western Seaboard at Mumbai.

He is a recipient of the Tatrakshak Medal (meritorious service). He has completed IMC Course in the United Kingdom. He is also a qualified Interviewing Officer. The officer has been earlier on the Board of Trustees of 4 major ports of the country, New Mangalore Port Trust, Mumbai Port Trust, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and Mormugao Port Trust and is an Alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad.
