Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL), an exemplary embodiment of India’s growing prowess in the aerospace and defence manufacturing sector, has delivered its 300th fuselage for the renowned AH-64 Apache combat helicopter. This milestone, achieved at its advanced facility in Hyderabad, marks a significant step in India’s ambition to become a global hub for defence production while enhancing its self-reliance in critical military capabilities. The fuselages, produced domestically, are supplied to international customers, including the U.S. Army and the Indian Armed Forces, thereby showcasing India’s increasing integration into the global defence supply chain.
The AH-64 Apache is one of the most advanced and battle-tested attack helicopters in the world, renowned for its versatility, firepower, and technological sophistication. In India, the Indian Air Force already operates a fleet of 22 AH-64E Apache helicopters, and the Indian Army has placed orders for six more units. TBAL’s efforts in manufacturing fuselages for this highly reputed platform underline the strategic importance of partnerships like the one between Boeing and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL). More than 90 percent of the parts used in the Apache aerostructure are manufactured in India, with over 100 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) contributing to the project. This remarkable statistic highlights the pivotal role of MSMEs in driving the Make in India initiative, which aims to elevate domestic manufacturing capabilities across various sectors, including aerospace and defence. By involving such an extensive network of local suppliers, the venture also generates significant employment opportunities, advances technical skill development, and spreads the benefits of economic growth to smaller enterprises.
