Digitisation, Social Media & Cyber Security Key Issues At Combined Commanders’ Conference

By Staff Correspondent

Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, recently conducted a review of the security situation and operational readiness of the Armed Forces at the Combined Commanders’ Conference in Bhopal on 1 April 2023. During the conference, Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, provided an update on the various discussions. Modi commended the Armed Forces for their vital role in nation-building and for providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to friendly nations.

Given the growing threat landscape, Modi urged the three services to remain vigilant and prepared. The conference covered several topics, including digitisation, cyber security, social media challenges, self-reliance, and jointness. Unlike previous conferences, this year’s conference featured interactive sessions with soldiers from every command of the Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force, including the Tri-Services Andaman and Nicobar Command.

The conference, which ran from 30 March to 1 April 2023, with the theme of “Ready, Resurgent, Relevant,” featured discussions on a range of issues, including national security and developing a joint military vision for the future. On 31 March 2023, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed defence preparedness and applauded the Armed Forces for their contributions to national interests and for realising the government’s vision of “Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”

This year’s conference was unique in that it sought inputs from field units on contemporary issues, such as changes in TTP and greater integration among the three services. The military commanders discussed these inputs in detail, and the conference also provided an opportunity to review ongoing and completed military operations while exploring ways to enhance the country’s defence capabilities.
