Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), a subsidiary of GMR Airports Infrastructure Limited (GIL), has welcomed the first batch of transhipment cargo from Bangladesh, providing a quicker and more cost-effective way to ship export cargo internationally. The cargo left Dhaka on 26 February 2023 and arrived at Delhi Airport today. It will leave for Spain on 5 March 2023.
The Government of India approved Delhi Airport’s role as a Cargo Transshipment hub between Bangladesh and other global destinations for export cargo on 7 February 2023. The move is expected to boost the Indian economy and reduce shipment costs significantly for manufacturers. Additionally, the new route of transportation is expected to create new opportunities for Bangladesh. The manufacturers will be able to track their shipment throughout its journey, including its arrival at the Delhi Airport, during security clearances, and final uploading of cargo on the aircraft.
To ensure ease of doing business, DIAL has created a special truck docking facility and a dedicated X-ray area for the swift transfer of cargo to their outbound locations.
