IndiGo has unveiled plans to extend its network to three new routes centred on Pune in answer to rising travel demand from India’s technology and manufacturing metropolis. The carrier will begin flights from Pune to Jodhpur on 16 June 2023 and from Pune to Rajkot and Vadodara on 3 July 2023. This expansion is designed to bolster domestic connectivity and offer passengers more choices while driving interstate connectivity in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan’s golden triangle.
According to Vinay Malhotra, Global Sales Chief at IndiGo, global air traffic has soared to over 90% of pre-pandemic levels, making aviation increasingly available and the transportation mode of choice for many. “We are excited to contribute to this significant growth, responding to increasing demand with the introduction of new domestic routes across our comprehensive network. This not only enhances interstate mobility and connectivity but also fuels socio-economic and cultural growth in India. We remain committed to improving domestic connectivity and providing an affordable, punctual, polite, and hassle-free travel experience across our vast network.”
Pune, the reputed second capital of India’s IT industry and a significant automobile and manufacturing hub, has also gained fame as a centre of education and software development, earning the moniker ‘Oxford of the East.’ The city’s cultural richness and historical landmarks stem from its history as a key centre of the Maratha Empire.
Jodhpur, or the ‘Blue City,’ is a city of forts, palaces, temples, and industrial complexes in Rajasthan. Famous for its handicrafts and rich cultural tourism, it boasts attractions such as Mehrangarh Fort, Umaid Bhawan Palace, and Ghanta Ghar.
Rajkot, known for its cultural heritage and traditional handicrafts such as silk embroidery and patola weaving, is an emerging city featuring various tourist attractions such as the Mahatma Gandhi Museum and Lalpari Lake.
Vadodara, or Baroda, is a city in Gujarat known for its cultural heritage, historical monuments, and beautiful gardens. It houses several famous attractions like Laxmi Vilas Palace, the former residence of the Gaekwad dynasty that ruled over Baroda State and is known for its traditional arts and crafts.
