Due to a delay in the delivery of B787 aircraft, at least 14 flights connecting Frankfurt with New Delhi and Paris have been cancelled by Vistara. The company has leased the aircraft from Irish lessor AerCap.
The B787 (also known as Dreamliner) is still under refurbishment and maintenance processes while it was expected to be delivered by this time in October; however, aviation industry executives say that it will most likely be delivered sometime in November.
On August 6, Vistara stated that a Dreamliner has been leased by them and, therefore, it shall operate six flights every week from October 30 on the Delhi-Frankfurt route instead of three weekly services currently.
Moreover, the full-service carrier mentioned that from October 30, it will operate five flights weekly on the New Delhi-Paris route instead of its two weekly flights currently. As per the same, they opened bookings on these additional flights.
The airline has cancelled at least six flights on the New Delhi-Paris-New Delhi route, and eight flights on the New Delhi-Frankfurt-New Delhi route between October 30 and November 6 since the leased plane has not been delivered yet, as per the executives.
A Vistara spokesperson said, “We confirm that there has been a slight, unavoidable delay in the delivery of our third (leased) Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, thereby impacting select bookings of a few days, made for Vistara flights to/from Paris and Frankfurt.”
We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers. We are in touch with them to offer various options that suit them best. Simultaneously, we are working closely with relevant stakeholders to bring the aircraft into operations as soon as possible.”
